Hardik Pandya is a prominent name that rings the bell of power hitting and lethal pace bowling in cricket. Pandya is a complete cricketer who can single handedly change the course of a cricket match.

Early Life & Domestic Debut:

Born in 1993 in Gujarat, India, cricket has been part of Hardik’s life since his childhood. In Ranji Trophy, he made his debut for Baroda in 2013. His ability to send sixes soaring backed up by medium-paced bowling put him head and shoulders above others.

International Debut & IPL Stardom:

He was part of the Indian cricket team for the Australia tour as a result of his notable domestic performances. Hardik played the first international T20 match for India against Australia. Indian Premier League (IPL) has also had a great impact on Hardik’s Cricket career. Hardik Pandya’s career highlights:

  • 108 vs Sri Lanka (Galle Test, 2017): There were a number of reasons why this knock was unique. It was his first century in Test cricket and he did it in style, making the fastest hundred by an Indian batsman on debut at that time. In addition, he is the only Indian who has scored a Test 100 just before lunch.
  • 71 vs England (Old Trafford ODI, 2022):  This innings came when India were chasing hard against England. He played a key role in anchoring the innings after India had lost early wickets. A patient knock of 71 from him helped India get back into the contest even though they could not go past the finish line.
  • 70 vs Sri Lanka (Colombo ODI, 2023):*  This undefeated inning displayed Pandya’s prowess as a closer. When he arrived at the crease, India needed more than seventy runs with ten overs remaining and he played responsibly enough to seal off all boundaries there by India winning comfortably.
  • 4/38 & 33 vs England (Bristol T20I, 2018):*  Truly amazing is this all-round performance! The English side was restricted by Pandya’s fast bowling as he picked up four key wickets for his team. However, it did not matter as he finished off the game himself with an unbeaten cameo scoring 33* in quick time, becoming first Indian cricketer to score more than 30 runs and take four wickets in T20I.

At only 30 years of age, Hardik Pandya is still in the prime of his cricketing career. He is currently the deputy captain of the Indian team for T20 formats. Being able to bat hard, bowl critical overs, and with all round skills, he remains an invaluable asset to the Indian team across all formats.

This player’s career has been fraught with difficulties. At times, he had faced injuries which forced him to work on his fitness and consistency as a bowler. Besides that, he had also had some scandals in the past. This made it even more important to have maturity both on and off the field. He however keeps working on his fitness.
